The Wichita Indians lived in Oklahoma. Before becoming a civilization, they tattooed their faces, arms, and chests. They were a steadfast and peaceful people. They had about 500 warriors in their tribe. The Wichita's chief from the past was Wee-Ta-Ra-Sha-Ro.  The Wichita Indians had a language that was called Surprisingly

  
Food: The food that the Wichitas farmed was corn, squash, and pumpkins.  They planted plum trees, and also hunted buffalo. They always built their house by fields, or where there were forest or wooded areas so they could be by their food source.
 

 

Clothing:

The Wichita Indians wore moccasins. They usually wore plain, long shirts. The women wore knee length dresses made from buffalo hide.
 
 
 

 

SHELTER: The Wichita Indians had houses that had a diameter up to 40 to 50 ft. Most of the houses were cone- shaped with grass all around the sides. When they were traveling in the winter they used hides of buffalo to keep warm.
 

 

CULTURE:
  ENTERTAINMENT:   The Wichita Indians did Horn dances and Gift dances. They had foot races that the whole tribe joined in on.

RELIGION: The religious leaders were called Shamans. They believed in natural forces around them.

ARTS:   Wichita Indians made pottery and bead jewelry from dried clay they found in the southern Kansas River.
