   The Sioux Nation

General Overview: The Sioux were a great tribe with many branches. They hunted buffalo and used its skin for shelter, clothes, and tools. They were mostly Christians. For transportation they used horses and canoes.

 
 
Food- They hunted buffalo. They used the meat for food. once in awhile they caught a raccoon or squirrel, but buffalo was the main source.

Culture-
 

Religion: Nearly 10,000 of the 25,000 Sioux living in the United States were  reported as Christians. The
proportion is now probably at least one half, of them. Half are Catholic, the others being mostly Episcopalian and Presbyterian. The Native American Church combines the basic teachings of Christianity with ceremonies and music reflecting Indian origins. The Yuwipi Ceremony and the Ghost Dance.

Trasportation: At first the Sioux traveled in birch bark canoes. They also used snow shoes. When they crossed the Missouri River about 1750 they began to use horses for transportation. The Sioux got their horses from the Spanish. A piece of leather was attached at the open end of the logs. This piece of leather was used to carry people or loads.
