We go to Warren School in rural Monmouth, Illinois.
Our teacher is Mrs. Shimmin.
Here is what our school day is like:
Language is the first
subject of the day. We are studying about nouns. A noun is
a person, place or thing. We use nouns in sentences.
Math is
the next subject that we do. We just finished studying fractions
and decimals. We think math is lots of fun! :-)
Reading is
our next class. We are in the Journeys Book.
We just read an article about the Post Office. We learned how they
sort the mail, and how the mail gets delivered. We also learned that
stamps get canceled when they put it through the machine. It gets
black lines through it, and a circle in placed on the envelope.
Social Studies
comes after reading. We learned about 9 physical features that
can be found on the Earth. They are listed below:
An island is a body of land with water all around it.
|
Mountain ranges are a
group of mountains.
|
A peninsula is a piece of land that sticks out into the water.
It has water almost all the way around it.
|
A plain is a large area
of flat grassland.
|
The coast is land that
borders the ocean.
|
The desert is a region with very little rainfall and few plants.
|
The ocean is a very large
body of salt water.
|
A river is a long, flowing
body of water.
|
A lake is a body of water with
land all around it.
|
Now we are learning
about our National Government. We learned about the Supreme
Court. They are the highest court in the country. Sandra Day
O'Connor was the first women to be picked by the President to be
a Supreme Court judge.
Spelling We
just learned about unstressed syllables in the VCCV pattern. Some
examples are: almost, explain, until, husband, and captain.
Handwriting We
are writing paragraphs in cursive writing. The paragraphs have had
to do with what we've been studying in Social Studies.
Science We
have been studying Nutrition and the Food Pyramid. We learned what
foods give us energy. Here is a picture of the Food Pyramid.
